1st Day-Trip / Arrival

It’s the day you Arrive to Madeira Island.

2nd Day- Queimadas Park/ Levada do Caldeirão Verde / Ilha (16km, round trip) 5h30 walk

Transfer to Queimadas Park. On this Levada walk, we lose ourselves in a lush green forest with flowers, green mossy walls, ferns, and waterfalls. You will discover one of the most spectacular Levadas on the island, with impressive canyon valleys, the origin of the Laurissilva vegetation (Unesco World Heritage).

This Levada is an impressive work of art built in the XXVIII Century, which crosses abrupt cliffs and mountains and transports the water that flows from the highest mountains of the island. Along the way, you will pass through 4 tunnels excavated by hand, until arriving at the waterfall formed lake of the Caldeirão Verde at 100mt. After resting and delighting in this spectacular natural landscape, it is time to go back and down to the Ilha parish.

3rd day- Ponta de São Lourenço / Larano / Machico (20km) 7h30 walk

Departure from the Bay of Abra to discover a walk of minerals, dikes and stunning colors. The peninsula is classified as a partial natural reserve and the Islet Desembarcadouro, an integral natural reserve.

The peninsula is classified as a partial natural reserve and the Desembarcadouro Islet, an integral natural reserve. Before climbing to the end of the trip you can view the ‘Deserted Islands’ as well as the island of Porto Santo.

Back to the Bay of Abra to transfer to the next trip, the Larano path. The trip is made by the slope overlooking the ocean, on an often narrow and dizzying path. At Boca do Risco, you can enjoy the north coast of the island of Madeira and see Porto Santo Island. Relax, before following the walk along a path often used by the population to move between the two locations.

4th day- Levada do Castelejo (19km) 5h30 walk

Beginning in the area of Refertas, Porto da Cruz, this trail leads hikers through a journey filled with several species of endemic flora and fauna, as well as beautiful landscapes that show some of the beauty and tradition of this island.

In the first part of the journey you can admire the imposing Rock of Penha dÁguia and the picturesque buildings that constitute the nearby villages. You can also enjoy the small plots and agricultural crops. As you move forward begins to emerge the magnificent and abundant vegetation characteristic of this zone, as the Holly (Ilex canariensis), Canary Laurel (Appolonias barbujana), the Laurel (Laurus azorica) among many others.

At the end, you will find a beautiful place with small lakes formed by the pure and crystalline water brought in by the river. Enjoy all the surroundings and take time to relax for a while. After resetting the energies, it is time to return, following the reverse path.

5th Dia- Boca da Corrida / Pico Grande / Curral das Freiras (13km) 5h30 walk

Transfer to Boca da Corrida to do a long walk to Pico Grande. If you have strength, you can climb to 1654 meters and enjoy great views, where you will have an exuberant view of the Curral das Freiras valley. After a pause you will descend down a gorge path, a considerable gap, on a zigzagging trail.

6th day- Boca da Corrida / Encumeada (12km) 5h30 walk

This trail starts at Boca da Corrida and crosses a portion of the majestic Central Mountain Massif. The perspective provided by this route changes at each turn, every rise and every descent. Along the route you will see the views to Curral das Freiras and Encumeada. You will also be able to appreciate species endemic to the flora and fauna of Madeira. It is a walk that, being on a mountain, requires some physical preparation and resistance, although the sense of greatness and satisfaction offered by it will compensate the effort. When you make this walk you will be transported to Madeira’s past. Old, as this was one of the main routes used for the movement of people on the island.

7th day- Levada do Cedros / Chão da Ribeira / Seixal (17km) 6h walk

This trip starts at the Levada dos Cedros, which leads us to the Fanal where we will see the greatest and most extraordinary laurels in the world. Descent to the Seixal by an old shepherd’s path more accentuated. After the walk you can enjoy some bathing on the black sand beach in Seixal.

8th day- São Vicente / Levada do Norte / Encumeada (15km) 5h30 walk

The route begins in São Vicente parish where you will go up a long path until you find and cross the largest Levada of the island, Levada do Norte. Along the Levada, you will cross tunnels and waterfalls that will take you to the summit of Encumeada.

9th Day- Levada da Calheta (14,5km) 5h walk

This walk starts in Calheta, on the south coast of Madeira Island, along the Regional Road 211 and goes towards the Prazeres, through a colorful path through the various species of flora such as acacias, eucalyptus, pine and wildflowers and views sublime During the walk you will also find several dirt roads that cross the path of the Levada, and you must continue your path following the water channel until you reach Casa do Levadeiro, where you can relax before continuing the walk to the parish of the Prazeres.

10th day- Rabaçal / Levada do Risco / Levada das 25 Fontes (11km) 4h walk

Transfer to Rabaçal, the gateway to charming and exuberant waterfalls. Going down to Rabaçal house where you start the trek of Levada do Risco with the sight of a dazzling waterfall. Then continue to along the Levada walk to 25 Fontes (25 Fountains). After arriving to the 25 Fontes delight yourself with the landscapes and the environment, like the waterfalls gushing toward a magnificent lagoon. Take a break and open your mind. Throughout the Levadas of Century XIX (1835/1855), you will be able to admire many different species of Madeiran flora.

11th day- Pico do Areeiro / Pico Ruivo / Achada do Teixeira (10km) 5h walk

The crossing at altitude of Pico do Areeiro (1818mt) to the highest peak of the island of Madeira, Pico Ruivo (1862mt). Up there, you will enjoy a 360º view of the entire island.

Descend to Achada do Teixeira, time to visit a natural figure in basaltic rock, the “Standing Man”.

Stop in Santana to visit the famous traditional houses.

Dinner “Bailinho da Madeira”
Enjoy a gastronomic experience in a typical Madeira Restaurant with homemade flavors and tradition. Here you can taste the famous Espetada da Madeira (beef skewer), accompanied with fried corn, the traditional bolo do caco (bread), listening the “Bailinho da Madeira” and Folklore.
